Z-Land Cali Proposed Server Gameplay

The Z-Virus
The deadly virus, or better known as Z-Virus that turns the dead into mindless flesh eating creatures has spread throughout the entire world. In less than a year countries and nations have fallen into apocalypse reverting us back into the middle ages. Cities have engaged Martial Law and within the chaos and panic the military evacuated and severed itself from the rest in order to survive. Without the military protection, many evacuation and safe zones fell and most survived longer when they found themselves together and the ones that chose to stay alone did not stand a chance and soon found themselves shambling the streets as another mindless z-virus infected or dead if they were lucky.

Undead Nightmare, Factions
10 years since the outbreak, with 98% of the world population either dead or turned into the undead. 2 factions have been created that struggle to survive against the z-infected and from each other. The Survivalist Coalition is a group that enforces peaceful interactions and use violence as a last option. They are composed of a wide variety of survivors from teachers to military personnel and their main Headquarters is situated somewhere on the East. The United Arms Corps is a group that enforces an all military structure and are mostly composed of military personnel. Survivors who are found to be of any use are given two options, to join or die. the UAC Headquarters is located somewhere in the West.

Map Overview
The map is divided into 2 sides, East and West. The Survivalist Coalition is located on the East while the United Arms Corps on the West. These 2 sides are divided further into smaller territories which at the start will not be claimed by either side. There will also be a Neutral Territory located right on the center of the map which will serve as the Neutral Zone and  Trading Outpost located within.

Red Border is UAC West and Blue is SC East. The Green and Orange dots are the Outposts and the white Center Box is the Neutral Zone where the Trading Outpost is located.

Faction Headquarters
Each faction will need to decide on where their Headquarters will be placed on the map. Only ONE keystone may be placed initially for the Faction Headquarters or an Outpost can be used as the factions headquarters. A new keystone can be placed every 72 real life hours to further expand the Headquarters territory OR to further expand the territory of a claimed Outpost.

Each faction may enforce their own rules within their own factions.

*Keystones are set for 25x25 blocks.

Outposts (Territory Control)
Outposts will be key areas on the map that each side will need to try to take over and claim to further expand their territory hold over the map. Each Outpost will have a storage chest (on top of a metal block) full of loot and resources available for the claiming faction as well as a Keystone that will need to be placed down to finalize faction claim on that Outpost.

Only one Outpost per faction can be claimed every 72 real life hours.

Trading Outpost
This Outpost is Neutral Territory and serves only as a place for trading. Everyone who enters the Outpost is required to hold no weapons of any kind on their hands.

Attacking & Defending Territory
As of this time there is no alarm or notification if any structure/s that we own are being attacked. So this is something that we’ll have to improvise on.

I propose that we create a Battle Engagement & Map Status on the "Activity Feed" on the homepage where you can do a "Post Update Status" when we have to announce any important actions before hand such as a territory claim, attacking an outpost, etc.

So for instance, members of the Survivalist Coalition is planning on attacking Outpost 3. A member of theirs would then do a Post Update Status on the Activity Feed saying:

> Survivalist Coalition is planning on Attacking Outpost 3.

Once this announcement has been made the attacking faction will have 48 hours to try and take over the Outpost.

If the attackers were unsuccessful in taking over the Outpost within the time limit then they will need to withdraw. Once an unsuccessful attack on an Outpost has been made the Outpost cannot be attacked again for another 48 hours.

If the attack was successful the defending faction will need to withdraw and the Outpost cannot be attacked again for another 48 hours.

Airdrops
Airdrops are set to 72 hours in-game time and are free-for-all. If you see a plane make sure to take note which direction it headed.

Map Full Reset & Prefabs Reinstalled
I will be fully resetting the map which means everything will be erased and we’ll have a new world to play in. The server will be down for maintenance, prefab installation as well as Outposts setup.

I might also switch server hosting to one that would give us better connection and performance.

Member Invitations
If you plan on inviting new players to your faction make sure to have them register on our website and fill out the application. Let me know what questions you want asked on the application so I can start on that and have the application form up as soon as possible.

I will be upgrading the server so that more players can join. The new maximum available slots on the server will be 12. That would make it 6 members for each faction. If your maximum members has been reached with your faction (currently 6) then you will not be able to invite anymore members until the server is updated with more available slots.

Events
We will plan events often that will involve both factions and I’ll give more information on those as they are developed.

Server Settings
We can talk about the server settings and I’ll post them under here once they’ve been finalized and agreed upon.

Alright any questions, concerns, suggestions, ideas post em up here and lets get this all fleshed out so we can play!

first i want to thank you for all the effort you put into this....nice work!
my concern on the other hand is;

- who is going to enforce the rules? and how?
- informing the enemy about outpost attacks removes the covert operations element!
- everyone has a keystone , how are you going to enforce not using them?!?!
- because we live in different time zones we need a message board to assign tasks
- we also need ranks( or similar ) you cant go to war without an organized effort
- destroying chests should be banned......i wouldnt want to come to my fortress and find all the chest destroyed......very frustrating.

BTW I couldnt figure out how to unlock someone elses chest

i have a lot more questions

- who is going to enforce the rules? and how?
Each player will have to enforce the rules. If they are not followed it can result in a ban.

- informing the enemy about outpost attacks removes the covert operations element!
I was aiming for a more MMO type system/rules when it came to the Faction vs Faction. In an MMO the system would announce server wide what is going on such as one realm attacking a castle for instance.

This type of system would also be more engaging as it would inform the opposing faction and battles would be more frequent and easier to find instead of finding out your outpost is being attack by chance.

In any case, if every one wants to keep all major actions hush hush then we'll go with that. We can also have the announcements but don't specifically say what you are going to be attacking. The opposing faction would at least know if it was an Outpost then they would check all their claimed Outposts to see which is being attacked.

- everyone has a keystone , how are you going to enforce not using them?!?!
This would be enforced by the faction leader. I propose that the leader take all keystones from all faction members and keep them until needed.

- because we live in different time zones we need a message board to assign tasks
We will create a board for each faction that can be used/viewed only by the right faction members.

- we also need ranks( or similar ) you cant go to war without an organized effort
Yup, we'll also have ranks. Ranks will be created within the factions. We'll update the site to reflect that.

- destroying chests should be banned......i wouldnt want to come to my fortress and find all the chest destroyed......very frustrating.
If your chests are being destroyed in your headquarters then you must have someone doing what they're not suppose to. Opposing factions should be able to destroy the other factions property if they so choose.

BTW I couldnt figure out how to unlock someone elses chest
You can't unlock someone else chest unless you break it or know their password if they have one set. You should be able to hit it until it unlocks.

i have a lot more questions
Ask away

The idea is nice but hampered by the small numbers allowed per faction. Whats the point in have ranks if it'll be one leader, 1-2 co-leaders and the last 3 who knows? It's a large scale idea for a currently small scale game. That and people should be able to attack whenever possible. HONESTLY this is a great idea. It really is but IMO its the wrong game for it

I'm not being mean or trying to be overly critical just being honest because real friends are honest! If we really want to do something like this, maybe in the meantime we might have to find another game that could actually use the idea well. I've seen DayZ which has zombies too and actually looks pretty damn good. 7DTD has a few features I like better but DayZ might be worth a try for us all.

The small number cap per faction is due to us being a small group at the moment, I'm not really restricting how many players can play but because of how many slots are currently available. Right now we don't even know how many will actually be active participants once we get this up and running. I will eventually increase the available slots as more players actually play as I'd rather not pay for more slots if we don't have players actively playing.

Now this type of gameplay might seem like it's too grandscale for such a small group at the moment but once we reach 32 or even 64 players this would work really well. Also as I mentioned this is not set in stone so if any members have any suggestions and ideas we can definitely modify it until we are comfortable with the gameplay and we'll move forward from there.

In suggesting DayZ with this type of gameplay, a couple of things come to mind, does DayZ have some kind of land claiming feature? plus there is no crafting or building in DayZ, unless they've added those types of features recently as I've not kept up on its development in the last 2-3 months. So unless DayZ has those features this type of gameplay would not even work.

We can keep the gameplay simple by just playing freely and go with the flow. Create groups/factions if players so choose or players can go at it alone, no problem and we can keep the Neutral Zone in the center with the Trading Outpost.

Here's what I'll do if we go the simple route, I'll fully reset the map, add in the cool prefabs and we'll go from there. I'll upgrade the server to 20 slots so we can invite more dedicated players. If players happen to create groups let me know as we can use the 10 slot TS server that I have for communication unless everyone is okay with the in-game chat system.

Right now only thing truly keeping us from having bigger factions is 7DTD can't hold too many online at once. Most servers have trouble reducing lag once they get to 10 people online. I do really hope we can get a few groups going and start pvp but it should be an open kinda thing where it isn't required. Everyone knows its very hard without teamates in 7DTD.
